American Standard Code for Information Interchange abbreviated as ASCII is a character encoding scheme. It encodes 128 specific characters in 7 bits of which it defines 95 alphabetic and special characters including space that is graphically invisible, and 33 control characters.

The beginning of ASCII code was on October 6, 1960. It was developed to display the necessary characters in English, the other accented characters are provided by other standards, such as Unicode. The first version was published in 1963 and the last update was made in 1986. In 2007, ASCII became the most frequently answered character encoding system in the World Wide Web, but since then it has been surpassed by the famous UTF-8 which allows the encoding of all accented characters in multiple languages.

ASCII defines 127 characters numbered from 1 to 127 and encoded in binary on seven bits   0000000 to 1111111. Characters from 0 to 31 are not displayable. Character number 127 is the command to erase and character number 32 is space.
